The lesson: You can’t control platforms or social media, even if you pay for exposure (like McDonald’s did with the promoted Tweet.) In fact, you might actually be raising awareness of an issue you’d rather keep quiet.

Platforms and ecosystems are malleable and nearly impossible to control. Don’t be surprised when there’s a backlash against your product or brand.
