A recent [ReadWriteWeb piece](https://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/lawsuit%5Fagainst%5Ffacebook%5Fis%5Fpathetic%5Fand%5Fheartbrea.php?ref=philsimon.com) looks at the state of Yahoo! and its recent decision to sue Facebook for patent infringement. From the article:

> Pathetic and heartbreaking last stand for Yahoo [https://t.co/kzY9wkjR](https://t.co/kzY9wkjR?ref=philsimon.com) It's all over. I loved you very much.

I'm inclined to agree. Yahoo! has fallen like other tech powerhouses over the last ten years (read: AOL, MySpace, and even Microsoft to some extent). Despite its high [Alexa ranking](https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/yahoo.com?ref=philsimon.com), Yahoo! is essentially irrelevant. It's not entirely similar to [Kodak](https://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204124204577152503598025844.html?ref=philsimon.com), a company also relying upon lawyers more than product development teams. Its recent actions speak volumes about the state of the company, even if the lawsuit has merit.
