What's the future of Big Data?
Now that the initial hype has died down, here are some thoughts on where we're going.
It's impossible to pinpoint a specific date on which this occurred, but it's fair to say that Big Data has arrived in earnest. (My book Too Big to Ignore arrived more than three years ago.) Sure, there's still plenty of hype and opinions on the future of Big Data. Still, it has clearly moved from theory to practice in many organizations. As a Gartner analyst puts it, "Hype is now being replaced by practicality." (Why you wouldn't just say "Practicality is replacing hype" is beyond me.)
Put differently, we know where we are now, but where are we going? What does the future hold for Big Data?
